Game of Drones: Here come the WhiteWalkers!

At this time of year when the Himalayan Balsam is in flower, the British honey bees look very different!
They start to appear almost like ghost bees, covered in white. It can be a bit worrying for new beekepeers if they don’t know what it is and we often get asked if there is something wrong with the bees. In reality it’s the bees making the most of the last of the available pollen and in this case it’s the Himalayan balsam.
Although may think of this plant as an invasive weed, we love it and so do our bees – it also gives the honey a lovely delicate flavour.
